Some good news: Craig Dobson, who stepped down as King’s Academy’s head coach in 2011 due to health problems, will return to the sideline this fall.

He will be a part-time assistant at Glades Day, working with the offensive coordinator, Zach Threlkeld, and the offensive line. Dobson is Threlkeld’s stepfather.

Dobson was an assistant at Glades Day from 1992 to 2000, and was head coach until 2005. He was 47-18 in six years at King’s Academy, reaching the postseason four times.

In late 2011, Dobson, 52, had surgery to repair valve damage in his heart. In March, he was given clearance to return to work, but he must take it slow; he’ll be closely monitored by his cardiologist.

He may never be a full-time coach again, but he’s grateful to be back.

“I’m excited about them helping me wean my way back into it,” he said.
